Oman Engages in Climate Change Discussions at COP29 in Baku.


BAKU: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the deliberations of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. The conference aims to minimize the risks of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions globally.

According to Oman News Agency, Ibrahim Ahmed Al Ajmi, Head of the Omani negotiating team at the 29th Climate Summit, highlighted that the 2050 carbon neutrality plan pursued by Oman is a national effort aimed at reducing carbon emissions. He noted that this plan has received commendation from the international community.

Al Ajmi further explained that the COP29 Climate Summit focuses on discussing national efforts and international cooperation required to achieve the desired environmental goals. It also emphasizes enhancing strategies and building human capacities to contribute to future visions that aim to protect the Earth from natural disasters associated with climate change.

ember of the Omani negotiating team, stated that Oman collaborated with international groups to negotiate amendments and articles approved at the conference. The proceedings of this international conference address various issues, including providing financial resources for developing countries to implement national plans, adapting to global warming risks, achieving sustainable development goals, enhancing technology transfer and development, and building national capacities in this field.
