Arab League chief rejects coercive eviction of Palestinians

CAIRO, Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Ghait on Saturday emphatically rejected any form of coercive eviction of the Palestinians and relocating them from the north of Gaza to the south.

The Arab League said in a statement that Abul-Ghait expressed his rejection of the forced displacement of the civilians from northern Gaza during a meeting with the visiting German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock.

Abul-Ghait and minister Baerbock expressed harmonious views on the necessity of protecting the civilians in Gaza strip and providing them with aid, the statement said, noting that the secretary general called for coordinated international efforts "to halt the ongoing massacre in Gaza.

"The cycle of violence and revenge will not secure long term peace or security." Basic roots of the issue is the occupation and the political stalemate, he continued.

Heavily armed Israeli military forces have been pounding Gaza, wiping out whole residential districts, killing at least 2,000 people and wounding many others since Saturday, when Hamas combatants swarmed into Israeli settlements around Gaza, killing and abducting many Israelis
