Gaza: Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of World Health Organization (WHO), welcomed the evacuation of 104 patients, mostly children, from the Gaza Strip, but called for the pace to be accelerated as thousands wait to be evacuated.
According to Oman News Agency, since Saturday, WHO has supported the medical evacuation of 104 patients, the majority of whom are children, out of Gaza via the Rafah crossing to receive specialized care in Egypt. Alongside the patients, 172 companions traveled to ensure their care and support during the transfer.
WHO Director-General highlighted that approximately 12,000 to 14,000 individuals still require medical evacuation. These individuals need medical services that are currently unavailable in Gaza due to the complete collapse of its health infrastructure after more than 15 months of war.
In a speech last night, Ghebreyesus affirmed that the current priorities include addressing urgent health needs, supporting the operation of hospitals and primary care facilities, and facilitating the transportation of patients inside and outside Gaza to receive necessary specialized medical care.
