US Dollar Steady at Two-Week High as Central Banks Await Fed Decision

Muscat:The US dollar maintained its position at a two-week high today as anticipation builds over policy decisions from major central banks, including the Federal Reserve.

According to Oman News Agency, the US dollar index, which tracks the greenback's performance against a basket of six major currencies, remained stable at 102.40, marking its peak level since October 14. Meanwhile, the yield on the US 10-year Treasury bond increased by 2.2 basis points to 5.01%.

Ahead of the Federal Reserve's decision, most of the US dollar's counterparts showed little movement. The euro held steady at $1.1124, while the British pound experienced a slight decline of 0.1% to $1.32945. The US dollar fluctuated against the yen, ultimately remaining unchanged at 157.945 yen.

The New Zealand dollar saw a significant drop of up to 1.7%, hitting an intraday low of $0.55831 after the Reserve Bank of New Zealand unexpectedly decided to keep interest rates unchanged at 2.75%.

In contrast, the Australian dollar gained 0.1%, trading at $0.70345 following the release of inflation data indicating a rise to 1.3% in the third quarter, up from 0.6% in the previous quarter.

The US dollar also rose by 0.1% against the Canadian dollar, reaching C$1.4063, ahead of the Bank of Canada's interest rate decision. The central bank is expected to increase its benchmark interest rate as a precautionary measure to prevent energy-driven inflation from affecting other sectors of the economy.
