Tokyo:Japan's Nikkei share average climbed today, marking a second consecutive session of gains. The increase was fueled by strong earnings from South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix, which bolstered optimism about the demand for artificial intelligence-related chips.
According to Oman News Agency, the Nikkei 225 rose by 1.08% to close at 63,954.19, primarily supported by technology stocks. In contrast, the broader Topix index saw a slight decline of 0.14%, ending at 3,991.71.
Investor confidence was significantly boosted by SK Hynix's announcement of a more than sevenfold increase in its third-quarter operating profit year-on-year, reaching a record 83.33 trillion won. The company also revealed a shareholder-return plan valued at approximately 100 trillion won ($75 billion) for 2026, which includes dividends and share repurchases. This announcement also contributed to a 6.63% rise in South Korea's Kospi.
