Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman is actively participating in the 66th session of the Assemblies of Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), currently taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, and continuing until July 17, 2025. The Omani delegation is headed by Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry. According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Saleh, during his speech at the event, emphasized Oman's commitment to developing an integrated intellectual property system. This system aims to enhance digital infrastructure, modernize legislative frameworks, improve the skills of national personnel, and increase public awareness regarding intellectual property. Dr. Saleh highlighted that such initiatives are crucial for supporting a knowledge-based economy and fostering innovation. Dr. Saleh noted Oman's progress in strengthening its cooperation with WIPO through its membership in international intellectual property agreements and the execution of related projects. These initiatives include aiding Omani frankincense producers by training them in intellectual property management, thereby boosting the marketing value of Omani frankincense both locally and internationally through the use of geographical indicators. Dr. Saleh expressed appreciation for WIPO's collaboration with Oman in executing the National Intellectual Property Strategy project. This project aims to establish a sustainable national intellectual property system, which in turn is expected to protect innovation, enhance the national economy's competitiveness, and promote intellectual property culture. He further mentioned the customization of the 'Distance Learning Programme for Intellectual Property Fundamentals (DL101)' to align with Omani laws and culture, as well as the invaluable technical advice from WIPO experts on updating national legislation and proposing best practices. In his closing remarks, Dr. Saleh reaffirmed Oman's commitment to supporting WIPO's efforts and engaging in joint actions to create a fair and effective global intellectual property system that aligns with the sustainable development goals and protects innovation.
