Information Ministry to Organize Evolutionary Workshop on Tackling Social Media

Muscat: The Ministry of Information will organize an evolutionary workshop themed “Towards a National Framework for Dealing with Social Media”. The two-week workshop, scheduled to begin on Sunday, 16 February 2025, will be organized in cooperation with the ‘Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit’ and other relevant departments. This initiative stems from the Royal speech of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, emphasizing the responsibility of families and society in children’s upbringing amidst the pervasive influence of social media.

According to Oman News Agency, the workshop is part of a broader program by the Ministry of Information, aiming to engage academics, researchers, educators, media professionals, and specialists. The initiative involves preparing research, conducting a survey in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), and the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The focus is on addressing the challenges posed by social media within the framework of Oman Vision 2040.

A strategic approach has been developed by a team from the Ministry of Information, Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, and concerned departments. This strategy includes smart goals, algorithms, and an analysis of challenges that align with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040. The team has reviewed an initial set of projects and initiatives, visiting several government departments to gain insights into existing efforts.

The workshop is expected to propose several initiatives and programs that will be carried out by the relevant authorities. These efforts aim to enhance the positive aspects of social media while mitigating its negative impacts on society.
