Greece has imposed a nationwide ban on the transportation of sheep and goats in a bid to contain a highly contagious infection known as "goat plague" or Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR). The ban affects the movement of these animals for breeding, fattening, and slaughter. New cases of the virus have been detected in the central Larissa region and Corinth in the south. The disease, which can kill 80% to 100% of infected animals, poses no threat to humans but can devastate livestock populations.
