Food Security Lab 2026 Set to Launch in November

Muscat:The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is set to organize Food Security Lab 2026, commencing on November 1, 2026. This year’s edition will focus on reviewing the strategic program of the food security sector, evaluating existing investment projects, and exploring solutions to address the relevant challenges.

According to Oman News Agency, the Lab will include participation from various government units, state-owned enterprises, private sector establishments, and civil society organizations. It aims to explore the potential for new investment projects, initiate specialized initiatives, and enhance factors that support the sector’s growth, sustainability, and production efficiency.

The Lab’s objectives include motivating investments, integrating modern technologies into the development of food security sectors, increasing local output, and promoting the transformation of industries and in-country value (ICV) of national products. These efforts are geared towards achieving the goal of localizing the second billion Omani Rial (OMR) investments in the food security sector.

The program will feature workshops focusing on leveraging investment opportunities, addressing existing challenges, and devising practical solutions and initiatives. It seeks to foster greater integration among participating entities and accelerate the implementation of investment projects in the forthcoming stage.

Dr. Masoud bin Sulaiman Al Azri, acting as General Supervisor of the laboratory and Director General of Agricultural and Fisheries Marketing, noted that the ‘Food Security Laboratory 2026’ follows the precedent set by similar laboratories launched in 2021. These initiatives led to the initiation of 494 investment projects worth 1.87 billion Omani Rials, illustrating the ongoing efforts to attract investment and develop sectors linked to food security.
