South Al Batinah Observes International Anti-Drug Day with Awareness Event

Muscat: South Al Batinah Governorate today observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking. An event to mark the occasion was organized by South Al Batinah Governorate's Police Command, in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of South Al Batinah.

According to Oman News Agency, the event focused on raising public awareness about the risks involved in drug abuse and drug trafficking. It also stressed the need to support national efforts on protecting society against drug addiction. The event included a lecture on addressing drug abuse from an Islamic perspective, in addition to a drama and a play about the dangers of addiction.

The audience listened to a real-life story told by a person who recovered from drug addiction. In addition, a therapist from Al Amal International Hospital elaborated on the practice of recuperation and social support that could be extended to addicts by families and community members.

On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, three public awareness exhibitions were held in different locations in the governorate, with support from government departments and private sector establishments. The exhibitions included educational galleries on raising public awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and ways to prevent it.

Eng. Masoud bin Said Al Hashmi, Governor of South Al Batinah and chief guest at the event, felicitated the parties that contributed to the success of the event.
