Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has conferred the Oman Civil Order (First Class) upon Ant³nio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, during an audience at Al Barakah Palace. The honor recognizes Guterres's significant diplomatic and political contributions, as well as his ongoing efforts to support conflict resolution and promote international peace and security.
According to Oman News Agency, the UN Secretary General expressed his sincere appreciation for the award. He praised the Sultanate of Oman for its constructive and wise diplomatic efforts in fostering dialogue and mediation, and for its contributions to resolving conflicts both regionally and internationally. Guterres emphasized the importance of the continued partnership with the Sultanate of Oman to enhance global stability and peace.
The meeting was attended by several notable figures, including Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Aufi, Head of the Private Office, and Hussain bin Ali Abdullatif, Advisor at the Private Office. Also present were Gilles Michaud, UN Under-Secretary-General for Safety and Security, and Hans Grundberg, UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen.
