Joint Parliamentary Committees Resolve Differences on Key Legislative Amendments

Muscat: The Joint Committees of the State Council and the Shura Council convened a joint meeting today to deliberate on the articles of divergence between the two councils concerning two draft laws referred by the Council of Ministers. The meeting was held in accordance with the provisions of Article (49) of the Council of Oman Law, issued by Royal Decree No. (7/2021).

According to Oman News Agency, the draft laws under discussion were: 'Amendments to Certain Provisions of the Law on Arbitration in Civil and Commercial Disputes,' originally issued by Royal Decree No. 47/97, and "The Real Estate Registry Law."

The number of articles requiring reconciliation for the Arbitration Law amendments stood at seven. For the Real Estate Registry Law, the divergent articles totaled sixteen. The differences included provisions within the original draft laws as well as new articles introduced by the Shura Council.

Following deliberation, the joint committees successfully achieved consensus on all disputed articles. A final report detailing the agreed-upon text will now be prepared for presentation and discussion at a forthcoming joint plenary session of the State Council and the Shura Council.
