Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued Decision No. 1111 to promulgate a 'Bylaw on Regulating International Telecommunications Cables'. The decision aims to establish a secure and accessible telecom infrastructure in the Sultanate of Oman, fostering a regulatory environment that quickly adapts to changes in the telecommunications sector. This move aligns with Oman's vision of creating a competitive and investment-friendly environment.
According to Oman News Agency, the bylaw initiates a regulatory status for marine communications cables in economic zones and straits without anchoring. It addresses the regulation of all activities related to the extension of international communications cables, including surveying, installation, operation, maintenance, and repair in Omani lands, waters, Special Economic Zones, and straits. The bylaw also centralizes approvals to ensure smooth and uniform procedures.
The decision impacts licensees and companies involved in laying international telecommunications cables. It targets attracting investment and developing necessary regulatory tools for businesses engaged in this field. The bylaw aims to enhance competitiveness by improving service quality, diversifying options, and achieving competitive pricing, ultimately promoting better integration among government departments and relevant parties.
