The event aims to highlight the concerted efforts of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states to preserve biodiversity and raise public awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.

According to Oman News Agency, the GCC Wildlife Day, observed annually on December 30, seeks to draw attention to the Convention on the Conservation of Wildlife and its Natural Habitats. The day underscores the need to protect ecosystems and endangered species at risk of extinction. As part of the celebration, Oman's Environment Authority has initiated several projects and research surveys focused on assessing biodiversity, updating conservation laws, and mitigating threats to endangered species within the Sultanate.

The Environment Authority places a strong focus on maintaining the fundamental components of wildlife and ensuring their biodiversity and sustainability. Key initiatives include the 'National Biodiversity Survey Project,' the 'Marine Mammal Species Survey Project,' and the 'National Campaign to Combat Invasive Birds.'
