Barka: A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) paid a visit today to the Wilayat of Barka in the South Al Batinah Governorate as part of the field evaluation program for the Barka Healthy City.
According to Oman News Agency, this visit is part of national efforts aimed at obtaining international accreditation for healthy cities and promoting the concepts of public health, sustainable development, and quality of life. The delegation's itinerary included a meeting at the office of the Wali of Barka, attended by Eng. Masoud Said Al Hashmi, Governor of South Al Batinah, and Sayyid Tarik bin Mahmoud Al Busaidi, Wali of Barka, alongside members of the executive office of the Barka Healthy City and several officials and relevant authorities.
The meeting focused on reviewing the efforts in implementing healthy city initiatives and community partnerships that have contributed to achieving various health and developmental indicators. Discussions also covered the programs and projects implemented in line with the healthy city standards approved by the World Health Organization.
Furthermore, the delegation visited the executive office of the Barka Healthy City, where they examined accreditation files and supporting documents that detail the achievements and implemented projects. A visual presentation showcased health and community initiatives and programs, highlighting the roles of committees and partner entities in meeting the goals of the healthy city. Additionally, they visited the Barka Health Complex to understand the health services provided to the community, efforts in enhancing primary healthcare, preventive and awareness programs, and their role in supporting the health indicators of the population.
The programs of the Omani Women's Association in Barka also received attention from the delegation, focusing on initiatives directed towards women and families. A visit to the Barka waterfront was included, which supports health, physical, and recreational activities and promotes healthy lifestyles.
Field visits extended to neighborhoods to learn about community and developmental initiatives, including Al Khuwairat, the Al Shabab Sports Club for sports and youth programs, and the Barka Volunteer Team to understand its initiatives and participations in supporting health and developmental work. The health walkway in the Wilayat was also visited to observe efforts in providing supportive environments for physical activity.
