Wheat Production in Oman Surges by 229 pc During 2022-2023 Agricultural Season


Muscat: Wheat production in the Sultanate of Oman surged by 229 percent during Agricultural Season 2022/2023 to a total of 7,119 tons, compared to 2,169 tons during Agricultural Season 2021/2022.

Statistics issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources show wheat was grown on a total area of 6,359 acres of land during Agricultural Season 2022/2023, an increase of 160 percent over the previous season. The number of wheat farmers also grew by 24 percent, the ministry reported.

According to the report, Dhofar Governorate took the lead in wheat production (5,940 tons or 83% of the total volume of production) followed by A’Dakhiliyah Governorate (801 tons), A’Dhahirah Governorate (249 tons), Al Buraimi Governorate (38 tons), North Al Batinah Governorate (35 tons), North A’Sharqiyah Governorate (33 tons), South Al Batinah Governorate (16 tons), Musandam Governorate (2.4 tons), South A’Sharqiyah Governorate (2.3 tons) and Muscat Governorate (0.7 tons).

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries
and Water Resources signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Oman Flour Mills to enhance the purchase of locally produced wheat from Omani farmers during the harvest season. The company received 5,000 tons of wheat during 2022/2023 farming season.
