The UAE on Friday sent an aircraft carrying 13 tons of food and relief supplies to Sudanese refugees in Chad as part of this Gulf country’s humanitarian support for the Sudanese people.
The fresh aid aims at providing necessary humanitarian support for Sudanese refugees and the local community in Chad, mainly the most vulnerable groups, including the sick, children, the elderly, and women, the UAE Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
The Emirate initiative came under the direction of the UAE’s leadership to offer help to affected people in Sudan, Assistant Minister for Development and International Organizations Sultan Al-Shamsi was quoted as saying in the release.
The move is, further, part of the UAE’s humanitarian efforts and policy to demonstrate solidarity with countries and peoples in times of need, according to the release.
The Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been embroiled in violent clashes since mid-April. More than 3,000 people have been consequently killed and over 6,000 others injured, not to mention nearly four million internally displaced people and half a million refugees
