Typhoon Shanshan Makes Landfall in Japan, Leaves Casualties


Three people died and 40 were injured according to a preliminary toll as Typhoon Shanshan made landfall on Japan’s main island of Kyushu in southwestern Japan.

The Typhoon disrupted air and train traffic and cut off power.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the typhoon, with winds of up to 198 kph, made landfall near the city of Satsumasendai on the southwestern island of Kyushu today.

The Agency urged residents in the affected areas to remain on high alert for natural disasters, while public transport operators canceled trains and flights, and some homes were left without power as the storm advanced.
