TRA Introduces New Retail Tariff Regulation for Telecommunications Sector


Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued a new bylaw on price control, titled “Retail Tariff Regulation,” which replaces the previous regulation enacted under Decision No. 27/2016. This development marks a significant shift in the regulatory landscape for telecommunications services in the region.

According to Oman News Agency, the newly introduced bylaw encompasses a range of regulatory provisions. These include general guidelines on retail tariffs for telecommunications services as well as special provisions directed towards tenders offered to commercial beneficiaries and government institutions. Additionally, the bylaw includes measures for monitoring pricing practices to prevent them from exceeding established levels.

The regulation is applicable to all licensees providing public telecommunications services in retail markets. It aims to align with regional and international advancements within the telecommunications sector. A key objective of the bylaw is to promote fair comp
etition and ensure transparency in the retail telecommunications services market while safeguarding the rights and options available to consumers.
