State Council Engages in Global Parliamentary Discussions in Geneva

Geneva: The State Council is actively participating in the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its associated committee meetings in Geneva, Switzerland, with sessions scheduled to continue through 23 October. The Council’s involvement underscores its commitment to enhancing Oman’s presence in international parliamentary forums and fostering the exchange of legislative and institutional expertise.

According to Oman News Agency, within the assembly framework, Maha Sulaiman Al Lamki and Eng. Nahla Abdulwahab Al Hamdi, both members of the State Council, engaged in the Women Parliamentarians Forum (2025). This forum focused on critical issues concerning women’s empowerment in parliamentary work and their roles in decision-making processes. Key themes included advancing women’s leadership in parliaments, monitoring progress toward gender equality in parliamentary operations, and integrating gender perspectives into the General Assembly’s agenda.

During a dialogue session titled “Transformational Leadership – Building a More Equitable World,” Maha Al Lamki highlighted the significant achievements of Omani women and emphasized that Oman’s future vision relies on full partnership between women and men in societal development and nation-building. She elaborated on the concept of transformational leadership, which involves listening, empowering, and building connections between individuals and communities. Al Lamki stressed that women’s empowerment should extend beyond inclusion in decision-making roles to active participation in economic, scientific, and social spheres, positioning them as key partners in shaping a more inclusive and equitable future.

In parallel proceedings, Khalid Ahmed Al Saadi, Secretary-General of the State Council, participated in the meetings of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments. These discussions centered on organizational and technical aspects of parliamentary development, including innovations in parliamentary practice and contingency measures for maintaining operations during potential future disruptions, drawing lessons from recent global crises. Al Saadi emphasized the importance of knowledge-sharing among parliamentary secretariats and the implementation of digital and innovative solutions to enhance administrative and technical efficiency within parliamentary institutions.
