SQU College of Law Highlights Role of Legislation in Social Protection

Muscat: The 9th Conference of Sultan Qaboos University’s College of Law commenced today with a focus on the theme: “Role of the Legislative System in Social Protection”. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Mahad Said Ba’Owain, Minister of Labour, along with HH Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University.

According to Oman News Agency, the conference includes sessions addressing social protection from civil, commercial, constitutional, legal, and procedural perspectives. A dedicated session is planned for students of the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University, where they will present joint scholarly papers on relevant issues.

The conference is being held in the backdrop of significant legislative developments in Oman concerning social protection and labour. Its objectives include analysing national legislation, reviewing best international practices, and exploring ways to sustain the legislative system. The conference aims to align with Oman Vision 2040 by balancing development requirements and social justice.
