South a’sharqiyah: The Municipal Council of South A’Sharqiyah Governorate convened its seventh regular session for 2025, presided over by Dr. Yahya Badr Al Ma’awali, Governor of South A’Sharqiyah. The council addressed several developmental and service topics to meet community needs.
According to Oman News Agency, the discussions included an urban renewal initiative for the Niyabat of Taywi and the Wilayat of Al Kamil Wa Al Wafi, aimed at enhancing the urban landscape and creating an appealing urban environment. The session also reviewed the governorate’s Net Zero initiative, which targets the reduction of carbon emissions with the involvement of key sectors such as logistics, energy, waste management, industry, agriculture, and education. This initiative seeks to balance economic development with environmental sustainability in the governorate.
Additionally, the council approved a proposal to consolidate government entities in the Wilayat of Masirah into a unified administrative center, which is expected to streamline official transactions and improve institutional efficiency. The council also endorsed a proposal to employ the national workforce in the seasonal fishing sector through operational contracts and approved the establishment of new sports facilities to encourage athletic activities.
The meeting further addressed a proposal dealing with marine environmental threats in the governorate, ratified the minutes of the previous session, and evaluated progress on ongoing projects within the governorate.
