Barka: The Development Committee of South Al Batinah Governorate, operating under the Governor’s Office, is actively overseeing the implementation of a series of developmental, service, and infrastructure projects designed to enhance investment, trade, and tourism across the governorate’s wilayats.
According to Oman News Agency, Saud Said Al Ma’awali, Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council and Head of the Development Committee for South Al Batinah Governorate, emphasized that the committee is crafting strategic plans and programs to bolster the governorate’s economy, tourism, and infrastructure. These initiatives also aim to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), create job opportunities for youth, and develop skills across various sectors.
These projects are part of South Al Batinah’s developmental and recreational initiatives, aligning with Oman’s decentralization policies and the strengthening of local governance. They are a crucial component of the ongoing structural transformations in economic growth frameworks under the Tenth Five-Year Plan and Oman Vision 2040. The efforts are targeted at upgrading public facilities and services while boosting economic activities.
Al Ma’awali highlighted the Barka Waterfront Development Project in Al Muraisi, which extends over two kilometers. The project aims to transform the area into a touristic and integrated recreational hub, offering sports, leisure, and entertainment facilities, alongside tourism support services. It is anticipated to generate employment opportunities for locals, with a completion rate of 55% and an investment of RO 1.9 million.
Similarly, the Al Musanna Waterfront Development Project in Al Awaid is under progress, with 35% of work completed. The project, costing RO 1.7 million, will include restaurants, retail outlets, children’s play areas, and sports facilities, enhancing the region’s recreational offerings.
The Wadi Al Ma’awil Commercial Market, covering 16,000 square meters, is nearing completion with 95% of work done. With 27 commercial shops, the project, costing RO 319,000, is set to boost trade and tourism in the area.
Al Awabi Commercial Market project demonstrates the government’s commitment to elevating services and achieving sustainable development. With 16 commercial shops over 1,200 square meters, the project has reached 70% completion at a cost of RO 200,000.
Nakhal Public Park Development project, with a 70% completion rate, is being transformed with a development cost of RO 452,000. The park is set to become an integrated recreational and investment destination, featuring spaces for SMEs and local family businesses, thereby enhancing economic prospects in the region.
These projects reflect the governorate’s dedication to sustainable development, improving quality of life, and establishing a vibrant economic environment in alignment with national development objectives.
