RO 45-Million Sahalnout Sewage Network Project Inaugurated

Salalah: Phase 1 of a sewage network project in Sahalnout area was inaugurated today in the Wilayat of Salalah. The first phase of the project was implemented by Nama Services Dhofar over a period of three years to the tune of RO 45 million. The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, in the presence of government officials and project executives.

According to Oman News Agency, Eng. Ali Issa Shamas, CEO of Nama Services Dhofar, stated that the coverage rate of current sewage networks in Dhofar Governorate reached 70 percent, with a total network length exceeding 1,200 kilometres. As many as 60,000 subscribers have so far benefited from the sewage service. Shamas highlighted that the sewage network project in Sahalnout is being implemented in partnership with Oman National Engineering and Investment Company (ONEIC) for a period of 15 years as part of the government’s efforts to encourage the private sector to invest in infrastructure, particularly in the sewage sector.

Shamas emphasized Nama Services Dhofar’s commitment to enhancing sustainable development and infrastructure in the governorate. The project currently serves about 4,000 subscribers, with plans to increase the number to 5,500 subscribers during the first phase. The project’s station is designed to serve 20,000 subscribers in the future, covering and connecting neighboring plans, as well as the future city of Salalah, to accommodate all current and future flow from the Sahalnout area.

The project covers an area of 13.75 square kilometres and provides an integrated sewage network with a total length of more than 165 km, along with 1,200 inspection chambers and approximately 6,000 sub-house inspection chambers. The main sewage pumping station is designed to receive and pump a flow rate of 18,510 cubic metres a day.

Looking ahead, a tender was awarded to expand the main treated water station in Raysut to augment its capacity to 90,000 cubic metres a day, at a cost of RO 35 million. Construction work began early this year and the project is expected to be completed in 2027. The sewage treatment plant project in the Sahalnout area of Salalah constitutes part of a series of development projects in the sewage sector in Dhofar Governorate. Dhofar Governorate saw the implementation of the first sewage treatment plant in the Sultanate of Oman in 1992, aimed at boosting infrastructure and sewage services to cater to urban growth and sustainable development in the governorate.
