Oman Hosts Arab Region Meeting of ESCWA Social Protection Systems Reform Team


Muscat: Represented by the Ministry of Social Development, the Sultanate of Oman today hosted the 9th meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)’s team of experts in reforming social protection systems in the Arab region.

The two-day meeting is held in Muscat under the auspices of Dr. Laila Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.

The meeting aims to inform experts about Oman’s legislations, services and social protection programmes serving various segments of society.

The meeting provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and benefit from training provided by ESCWA experts for specialists at the Ministry of Social Development on how to prepare specialized international reports, monitor and analyze data and draw up strategic plans and legislations.

ESCWA experts will also cooperate in preparing an integrated platform to list all expenditures for social services provided to social segments in Oman.

The meeting’s working papers will provide further in
sights into protection services to children, the elderly and the overall social protection scheme.
