Oman Gleams as Guest of Honour at Cairo International Book Fair

Cairo: The Sultanate of Oman is the guest of honour at the 56th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair, which kicked off in Cairo today. Oman's delegation was headed by Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information.

According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Abdullah Al Harrasi valued Oman's designation as the Guest of Honour at the event. The minister highlighted that this gesture reflects the deep-rooted bonds between Oman and Egypt, showcasing their strong ties in various spheres, particularly through civilizational, historical, and cultural aspects.

In a press statement following the opening ceremony, Dr. Abdullah commended the efforts of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and the Egyptian Book Organization in ensuring the success of the book fair's 56th edition. He described the Cairo International Book Fair as a historical exposition in the Arab world, emphasizing its importance as a resource for readers, researchers, and writers.

Dr. Abdullah stated that the diversity of publications and cultural activities at the fair enriches libraries in the region. He added that Oman's participation as the guest of honour will enhance cultural and intellectual communication and showcase Omani literary and cultural heritage.

The Omani pavilion features a wide range of publications, workshops, discussion panels, folklore performances, and other activities highlighting Oman's modern progress under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Dr. Abdullah stressed the importance of cultural events in promoting peace, understanding, and the culture of knowledge acquisition through reading.

Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, Egypt's Minister of Culture, praised Oman's pavilion, admiring its exhibits that reflect Omani culture and its historical ties with Egypt. The two ministers toured the Omani pavilion, where Dr. Abdullah presented a commemorative gift to Dr. Hano.

Oman's pavilion includes publications from various ministries and institutions, an exhibition of rare manuscripts, fine arts, musical performances, and tourism documentaries. It also features a gallery for virtual reality technology, lectures, workshops, and poetry evenings.

The Cairo International Book Fair, held in Nasr City, will run until 5 February 2025. It is attended by about 80 countries and hosts collections from 1,345 publishing houses and 6,150 exhibitors, along with over 6,000 activities.
