Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman and the United Mexican States celebrated the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, unveiling a commemorative emblem symbolizing the ties between the two countries during a ceremony at the Foreign Ministry in Muscat.
According to Oman News Agency, Sheikh Khalifa Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, highlighted the bilateral relations and cooperation that began on 31 July 1985. He noted that this relationship has strengthened cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields. He expressed Oman’s desire to further develop relations with Mexico, focusing on shared values and mutual commitment to a partnership based on respect and understanding.
Anbal G³mez Toledo, Mexico’s Ambassador to Oman, praised the relations between the two nations and expressed his government’s eagerness to enhance bilateral ties. He commended Oman’s diplomatic efforts in regional and international issues, highlighting its role in promoting peace and stability. He also acknowledged Oman’s humanitarian efforts in securing the release of the Galaxy Leader ship’s crew, including Mexican citizens.
The ambassador emphasized that the 50-year celebration presents an opportunity to set new goals for cooperation, trade, tourism, academic exchanges, and scientific research. In a joint statement, Oman and Mexico reaffirmed their commitment to expanding their bilateral relationship, expressing a determination to enhance cooperation based on shared interests for the benefit of their peoples.
The ceremony was attended by several officials from both countries, marking a significant milestone in their diplomatic relations.
