Nuclear Talks Canceled Amid Escalating Conflict Between Iran and Israel

Muscat: Nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States scheduled for June 15 in Muscat have been canceled, Oman’s foreign minister announced. The announcement by Oman’s top diplomat, Badr Albusaidi, came after Iran described the talks as “meaningless” following an Israeli strike on Iran on June 13.

According to Radio Free Europe Radio Liberty, Iranian state media reported a fire at the South Pars gas field in the southern Bushehr Province, attributed to an Israeli attack as the two nations continued to engage in hostilities on June 14. At least three individuals were reported dead, and numerous others injured in the Iranian attacks, according to emergency officials. Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian communicated to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that Iran would respond with greater force if Israeli attacks persisted.

Meanwhile, Israel’s military announced a new wave of air strikes in Iran, targeting missile launchers and air defenses in the Tehran region. Israel’s defense minister issued
a warning to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, indicating severe retaliatory measures should missile attacks on Israel continue.

An Iranian diplomat informed the United Nations that 78 people had died and over 320 were injured in the initial Israeli strikes. State TV reported that around 60 people, including 20 children, were killed in an attack on a Tehran housing complex. This escalation began with a surprise air assault by Israel on Iran’s nuclear and missile facilities on June 13, further straining Middle East tensions.

In Tel Aviv, sirens sounded in the early hours of June 14, with live broadcasts capturing explosions. Israeli military urged residents to seek shelter. Incoming projectiles were reported across several Israeli cities, many intercepted by defense systems, though some damage was reported.

Reports of explosions in various Iranian locations surfaced on June 14. State TV footage depicted air defense activity in Khorramabad, Kermanshah, and Tabriz, indicating potential new Israel
i attacks. An Israeli strike reportedly targeted an oil refinery in Tabriz, causing visible smoke, as per the semi-official Mehr news agency.

International leaders have condemned the violence and called for restraint. The United States, a key ally of Israel, urged Iran to agree to limit its nuclear activities. Despite high-level negotiations, tensions remain high, with US President Donald Trump emphasizing the urgency of reaching a deal.

The Natanz uranium enrichment facility was reported to have suffered multiple strikes, with footage showing smoke from the site. The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed the attack but reported no radiation increase. Other facilities, including Fordow and a research site in Isfahan, were also targeted.

As the situation continues to escalate, international observers stress the importance of diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict.
