Nearly 300,000 kids visited science fest

The Third edition of Oman Science Festival saw an impressive attendance of children from various public and private schools across the country.

According to the Ministry of Education (MoE), about 300,000 children visited the six-day event from October 10 to 15 under the slogan ‘Together we live the passion for science’.

The annual knowledge festival was marked by the overwhelming participation of young students, science and technology companies, government and military bodies and authorities, the private sector, and the Ministry of Education.

The participation of the various national institutions in the OSF, which targeted children to instil some values by implementing several scientific competitions in a fun and attractive way, got general appreciation.

Over 400 activities happened across kiosks during the OSF, while young Omani children displayed many other innovative ideas.

“We have achieved the desired goals, and children are inspired and motivated. We are pretty sure most of them would pursue science as a major for higher studies,” Dr Khamis bin Abdullah Ambosaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, Chairman of the Main Committee of Oman Science Festival, said in his closing remarks.

“There are some brilliant ideas from the children which can be further developed and patented. For example, the rainwater system and local laptop manufacturing plant,” Fatma al Azri, one of the participants, told the Observer.

All the events had unique goals and inspired students like me. It was an an amazing experience for me. I could learn a lot about science, technology, health, education, trade, economy, food, environment, AI, energy, climate change and universe. The entire fair surprised me a lot and it was a huge inspiration for me,” said Sadhika Vikas, a student of Indian School Al Maabela.
