NASA Receives Orion Capsule After Historic Artemis II Lunar Mission

Muscat: NASA has received the Orion capsule from the Artemis II mission at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, following its return from a roughly ten-day journey around the Moon - the first crewed mission of its kind in more than half a century.

According to Oman News Agency, the capsule arrived at the Kennedy Space Center after splashing down in the Pacific Ocean, then was transported overland from San Diego to Cape Canaveral, where technical teams have begun inspection and analysis, the agency said.

Engineering teams will carry out detailed examinations of the heat shield and the spacecraft's systems, along with analysis of data recorded during the flight. The work will include dismantling some electronic components for reuse and performance evaluation, as well as inspecting other spacecraft systems to support future Artemis missions.

The Orion capsule carried a crew of four astronauts, reaching farther than any previous human mission. NASA said the spacecraft performed well, despite minor technical notes.
