Muscat: The Medical City for Military and Security Services, represented by its Ophthalmology Centre, has commenced the 20th edition of the Joint International Conference on Ophthalmology, Surgery, and Scientific Research. The event, which is taking place in Muscat Governorate, is set to last for three days, drawing collaboration from the Ministry of Health, Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB), Middle East Optometry Association, Oman Medical Association, Oman Ophthalmological Society, and the International Keratoconus Society.
According to Oman News Agency, the opening ceremony was graced by Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, with Eng. Uday Hilal Al Maawali, Head of the Medical City for Military and Security Services, in attendance. During the event, the minister honoured several physicians who have made significant contributions to the field of ophthalmology. n and abroad was also part of the ceremony.
The conference agenda is rich with lectures, visual presentations, research papers, workshops, and dialogue sessions, along with training courses at the ophthalmic surgical simulation laboratory. A highlight of the event is the live broadcasts of surgical operations conducted by a team of experts and specialists.
This international gathering aims to share educational experiences in treating eye diseases, highlighting significant developments in modern medicine, particularly the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing corneal diseases, retinal diseases, paediatric diseases, cataracts, and telemedicine surgery.
