Muscat: Four people were killed and eight others remain missing after a landslide struck a village in North China's Hebei province early today. The landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall and hit a village in Luanping County, Chengde City. Rescue operations are currently underway. According to Oman News Agency, earlier, Chinese authorities announced the evacuation of more than 4,400 people as torrential rains intensified around the capital, Beijing, and neighboring northern provinces, heightening the risk of natural disasters such as landslides and flooding. In Beijing's Miyun District, heavy rains have led to flash floods and landslides, affecting several villages in the suburban area. Northern China has witnessed record rainfall in recent years, increasing the vulnerability of densely populated areas, including Beijing, to severe flooding. Some scientists attribute the unusual spike in precipitation in the typically dry northern region to the effects of global warming.
