Muscat: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed concern over a reported drone strike on a machine hall at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which is under Russian control in southeastern Ukraine, and has requested access to the site. The United Nations agency, which oversees nuclear activities, stated in a post on X that IAEA experts present at the plant have requested to inspect the damaged building. The agency added that if confirmed, this would mark the first drone attack on the facility since April 2024.
According to Oman News Agency, Zaporizhzhia is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, comprising six reactors with a total capacity of approximately 6,000 megawatts.
