Higher Education Ministry Honours Winners of ‘We Are Oman’ Award’s First Edition


The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation today honoured the winners of its educational programme award titled ‘We Are Oman’. The award was first launched during Academic Year 2023/2024.

During the ceremony, the ministry launched the 2nd edition of the award under the auspices of HH Sayyid Fahr Fatik Al Said.

The ceremony saw the felicitation of winners in the award’s seven categories. The contestants excelled in skills related to intellectual, literary, artistic and electronic innovation, as well as the field of media, volunteering action and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

The ceremony also saw the felicitation of higher education institution that made outstanding achievements in implementing the educational programme ‘We Are Oman’. First place went to the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Muscat, followed by Sohar University (second place), Al Sharqiyah University (third place), the German University of Science and Technology (GUtech) in
4th place and Modern Collegeof Business andScience (MCBS) in 5th place.

The ‘We Are Oman’ Award is an annual competition organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. It targets higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman and their students.

The award focuses on supporting the activities undertaken by university students, to help hone their talents and earn them the skills necessary for achieving success at national, professional and personal levels.

The award seeks to enable university students to better serve their country and keep pace with modern global developments.

The award also aims to encourage higher education institutions to compete in organizing student events and activities. The competition identifies the institutions that are best at implementing the recommendations of the ‘We Are Oman’ educational programme.

In addition, the award highlights higher education institutions’ contribution in developing student councils and programmes, as well as the institu
tions’ role in instilling the concepts of citizenship, cultural identity and innovation in their students.

The ceremony, held at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, was attended by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, academics and students from various educational institutions.
