Nicosia: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, held a significant meeting with Constantinos Kombos, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, as part of his participation in the official ceremonies marking Cyprus's assumption of the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Cypriot Foreign Minister extended a warm welcome to Bahrain's participation in the ceremonies and emphasized the robust bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations. Dr. Al Zayani conveyed his good wishes for a successful presidency term for Cyprus in the Council of the European Union.
Dr. Al Zayani also reiterated Bahrain's commitment to enhancing cooperation and developing partnerships between the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), especially in light of Bahrain's current presidency of the GCC. He highlighted the significance of coordination during Bahrain's upcoming non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring further cooperation, particularly in economic and investment sectors. Both parties expressed interest in expanding trade, activating existing bilateral agreements, and increasing the exchange of delegations and official visits.
Additionally, they deliberated on the coordination required during Cyprus's presidency of the Council of the European Union and Bahrain's presidency of the GCC, as well as Bahrain's upcoming role in the UN Security Council concerning issues of mutual interest.
The discussions also encompassed regional developments and their potential impact on regional security and stability, alongside ongoing efforts to achieve peaceful resolutions to regional conflicts and foster peace and stability.
The meeting was attended by Khaled Yousef Al Jalahma, Ambassador of Bahrain to Cyprus, resident in Tel Aviv; Dr. Andreas Eliades, Ambassador of Cyprus to Bahrain; Saeed Abdulkhaliq, Chief of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector; Shaikha Al Anood bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Acting Head of the European Affairs Sector; and other members of the accompanying delegation.
