Education Ministry and UNICEF Launch Program to Enhance Student Skills

Muscat: The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the Sultanate of Oman, has initiated the “Training of Trainers in Positive Parenting: Promoting Inclusive and Safe Learning Environments” program. This five-day initiative is part of joint efforts to enhance child well-being within the school environment.

According to Oman News Agency, the program is designed to equip social workers, psychologists, and educational supervisors with practical skills and specialized knowledge in positive parenting and effective communication with parents. This initiative aims to foster positive behaviors among students, boost their academic performance, and nurture their psychological and social abilities in safe and inclusive learning settings.

The program includes a range of specialists who receive interactive training on various topics, such as positive parenting, child rights and protection, inclusive education for children with disabilities, psycho-social support, nutrition, bullying prevention, and strategies for effective family communication.

Training sessions are focused on offering participants scientific tools and modern techniques to support parents in creating family environments conducive to learning, emotional growth, and positive behavioral development in children.

Samira Chaudhary, UNICEF Representative to the Sultanate of Oman, highlighted that positive parenting is fundamental to children’s growth and well-being. She stressed that enhancing the capacities of educators and frontline workers to interact with parents empowers families to build children’s self-confidence, improve their mental health, and nurture their love for learning.

Fadhil Humaid Al Hadrami, Director of the Guidance and Awareness Department at the Ministry of Education, stated that the collaboration between schools and families is crucial for shaping a student’s personality and abilities. He noted that the program helps qualify social workers and psychologists to drive positive change in schools and enables parents to adopt educational methods based on respect, communication, and mutual support, thereby positively affecting education quality and student well-being.

He also mentioned that the program’s implementation is part of ongoing cooperation with UNICEF, expressing gratitude to the organization for its efforts in supporting child protection and student guidance programs in Oman.

The program aims to promote positive values and the authentic Omani character based on social solidarity, in alignment with the UNICEF Country Programme in Oman (2022-2025), which is consistent with Oman Vision 2040 that prioritizes human development.
