The 15th Cultural Summer Festival held a workshop on acting performance for people with special needs, which included various practical exercises to give participants and children of determination self-confidence.
The workshop, which was held in the seminar hall of the Dasma Theater, was led by Abeer Yahya, acting trainer for special needs, with the participation of children with disabilities from eight to 15 years old, and aims to help people with disabilities integrate into society.
In this regard, Yahya said in a statement that the participation of children in various activities is a vital matter that fuels their abilities, increases their sense of belonging to society, makes them more interactive with people, and develops their social skills that serve them in their daily lives.
The workshop consists of exercises on the stage in which the participating children unleash their talents, she explained, indicating that the workshop also includes motor skills as one of the basic ways of expressing thoughts.
The workshop helps children generate and create many ideas, develop criticism skills, and thus gain self-confidence, she added.
The workshop includes silent pantomime, which is acting without words, she mentioned, noting that it is one of the methods of stage arts that depends on performance and body language that usually consists of costumes and is accompanied by music.
It is worth noting that this festival was launched on September third under the auspices of the Minister of Information, the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, and the Chairman of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Literature (NCCAL) Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi.
The festival’s activities, which continue until September 17, are diverse and include cultural dialogue, a panel discussion, poetry and music by international bands, theatrical performances, and cultural and archaeological exhibitions.
The festival offers the public multiple training workshops for different age groups that contribute to intellectual, cultural and artistic development in collaboration with public associations and cultural institutions from the private sectors and under the supervision of professors.
