COSAF Hosts Symposium on AI in Military Operations


Muscat: The Command of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (COSAF) today organized a symposium focused on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) within the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF). The event was inaugurated by Maj. General Mohammed bin Rabia Al Shujaybi, Assistant Head of the Internal Security Service for Operations, and witnessed participation from various military and security units, as well as government institutions.



According to Oman News Agency, the symposium took place at the Al Shafaq Club of the Sultan’s Armed Forces. The program was structured around several critical themes, including AI’s role in operational readiness, governance related to military use of AI, and the security and ethical challenges associated with AI deployment. Additionally, discussions encompassed AI’s contribution to military strategic planning and cyber defense.



The primary objective of the symposium was to enhance the AI-related knowledge and technological expertise of SAF personnel. This initiative aligns with the broader sustainable development goals and seeks to evaluate the latest technological advancements. Furthermore, the event aimed to explore national efforts in addressing the current and future impacts of artificial intelligence on military operations.
