Beirut: US envoy to Lebanon, Tom Barrack, stated that his country supports any step taken by the Lebanese towards independent decision-making, noting that the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel includes conditions that have not yet been met.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Barrack, in an interview with “Al Jazeera” Channel, highlighted the ongoing issues with the ceasefire agreement, pointing out that Lebanon accuses Israel of non-compliance, while Israel levels the same accusation at Lebanon. The lack of direct communication between the two countries exacerbates the situation.
Barrack emphasized that the United States is not a guarantor of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel. He noted the persistent problem as Israel believes the ceasefire agreement is not being enforced and accuses Hezbollah of rebuilding its capabilities.
He further stressed that if the Lebanese people desire a “one state and one army,” they must take the step to “disarm Hezbollah and prevent a civil war,” indicating the necessity for internal cohesion and stability in Lebanon.
