Algeria’s electoral authority announced Friday the start of looking into the documents of hopeful presidential candidates running for the election slated for September 7.
The nominations include some outstanding candidates, including current President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, head of Movement for the Society of Peace (MSP) Abdelali Cherif, head of Socialist Forces Front and others.
Under the electoral law, the candidate should submit a list of 600 signatures of municipal, state or parliamentary members in at least 29 states, or a list of 50,000 signatures of eligible voters in at least 29 states, and the minimum signatures in each state should be 1,200.
The Constitutional Court will approve the final list of candidates within seven days of the date of sending the last decision of the independent electoral authority.
Once candidates’ documents are accepted, they can start their programs during the electoral campaigning which starts 23 days before the voting process and ends three days before it.
