A’Dhahirah Governorate Hosts Seminar on Omani Influence in East Africa

Muscat: The Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in A'Dhahirah Governorate today organized a cultural seminar titled 'Omani Presence in East Africa: A reading on political and cultural influence'. The event took place at the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) premises in the Wilayat of Ibri, A'Dhahirah governorate. According to Oman News Agency, the seminar featured three working papers that explored the political, economic, cultural, and scientific aspects of the Omani presence in East Africa. Participants engaged in discussions to deepen the understanding of Oman's historical influence in the region. At the conclusion of the seminar, attendees recommended enhancing scholarly research and academic efforts to document Omani history in East Africa. They encouraged support for specialized studies, the verification of manuscripts, and the collection of oral narratives to preserve historical knowledge. The seminar also emphasized the importance of activating cultural partnerships between the Sulta nate of Oman and East African countries. Suggestions included organizing joint exhibitions, cultural and academic exchange programs, and reviving shared historical events to strengthen bilateral ties. Additionally, the recommendations included incorporating the salient features of Omani presence in East Africa into educational curricula and media programs. This initiative aims to promote national identity and consolidate understanding of Oman's historical role in both regional and international contexts over the ages.
