Muscat: The Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Centre, affiliated with the University Medical City, has retained its international accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI) following a global assessment survey conducted from June 15 to 17, 2026.
According to Oman News Agency, the Sultan Qaboos Cancer Care Centre first received its international accreditation in June 2023 and continues to be the only government health institution in the Sultanate of Oman recognized by the JCI.
The JCI accreditation involves a thorough evaluation of a health institution's healthcare system, focusing on patient safety, quality of clinical services, governance and leadership, risk management, infection control, staff efficiency, medication management, healthcare environment, and ongoing improvements.
The significance of the JCI accreditation lies in its ability to measure a health institution through a comprehensive system of verifiable standards. It ties international recognition to an institution's capacity to sustain performance, beyond just meeting the standards during a single evaluation visit.
