Muscat: The Shura Council engaged in detailed discussions on various legislative, oversight, and developmental topics during its twenty-first regular session of the third ordinary sitting of the tenth term. The session was chaired by Khalid Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council.
According to Oman News Agency, the Council's agenda included the examination of a proposed draft law on sanctions and alternative penal measures, alongside a unified draft law concerning volunteer work in GCC countries. Members were briefed on several draft laws and agreements referred by the government, aligning with the legislative procedures outlined in the Council of Oman Law.
The Council was also briefed on a draft environmental law aimed at enhancing the legislative framework for environmental protection and natural resource conservation. This draft is designed to support sustainable development and address challenges related to climate change and biodiversity.
Additionally, the session covered a draft agreement between the Government of the Sultanate of Oman and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This agreement focuses on eliminating double taxation on income and preventing tax evasion.
Further discussions included a report from the Economic and Financial Committee assessing the status of local industries in Oman. Another report from the Committee on Education Research and Innovation addressed public-private partnerships in early childhood education and care for academically outstanding, gifted, and disabled students.
The session saw the participation of Council members and the Secretary General of the Shura Council.
