Muscat: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) organized an international scientific event today via video conference titled 'Horizons of Advanced Scientific Research through Synchrotron Technologies.'
According to Oman News Agency, the event was held in cooperation with the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Sohar University. The conference aimed to introduce the latest synchrotron technologies and their applications in scientific and industrial fields. It also reviewed opportunities for scientific research and training, while focusing on enhancing regional and international cooperation in innovation and knowledge transfer. These efforts are geared towards supporting the scientific research ecosystem and achieving sustainable development goals.
Dr. Nasser Salem Al Bimani, UTAS Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies, Scientific Research, and Innovation, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of such initiatives in bolstering scientific research and strengthening international partnerships. Meanwhile, Dr. Ghassan Adnan Al Kindi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Sohar University, emphasized the growing role of academic cooperation in developing the research capabilities of educational institutions.
The program included presentations on the role of SESAME in supporting scientific development and explored opportunities to utilize its research facilities. The activities of the IAEA in supporting synchrotron centers were also reviewed. Scientific sessions discussed projects aimed at enhancing scientific capabilities and mechanisms for linking laboratories with synchrotron technologies. Additionally, the applications of artificial intelligence in this field were addressed.
The event, attended by researchers, academics, students, and specialists, concluded by underscoring the importance of continuous knowledge exchange and the expansion of modern technologies. This aligns with national directions toward building an economy rooted in knowledge and innovation.
