Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman celebrated the Logistics Day today in an event organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, underscoring the sector's significance as a primary pillar of the national economy. The ceremony was held under the auspices of Anwar Hilal Al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
According to Oman News Agency, the event featured the announcement of 24 investment agreements in the fields of ports, airports, transport, and warehousing, alongside the integration of smart technologies into the logistics sector. Notable among these was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a total value of RO 3.5 million over five years, signed between Thunder Logistics in the Sultanate of Oman and RTX Allianz in Uzbekistan. The MoU aims to enhance cooperation in logistics services, including the transportation of goods from Uzbekistan to Oman for re-export to Gulf countries, Africa, and beyond. This partnership provides integrated services such as customs clearance, storage, and distribution, utilizing Omani ports and free zones as logistics hubs.
Another key package of agreements included an MoU to promote future sustainable mobility solutions in Oman, exploring cooperation opportunities with the People's Republic of China in green transport and innovation. This agreement covers vehicle leasing and smart transport services for commercial activities related to the vehicle sector, in accordance with Omani regulations. Furthermore, a cooperation program was unveiled between Mwasalat and Shabik to develop "first and last mile" feeder lines. This program aims to implement integrated technical and operational solutions to provide feeder routes efficiently linked to the public bus network, ensuring easier access to public transport and enhancing the user experience.
An agreement for ship bunkering services at the Port of Duqm was also signed, covering the supply of bunker fuel for floating vessels and offshore facilities. This includes residual fuel oils, distillates, LNG, LPG, hydrogen, biofuels, marine lubricants, methanol, and ammonia. Additionally, an MoU was signed between Smart Box and Genachem to explore joint commercial cooperation. In another initiative, Transom and Holiday House for Travel and Tourism launched a program to provide a more comfortable travel experience for people with disabilities, featuring a 50 percent discount on Transom service fees, dedicated free parking, free personal assistance, and specialized transport services for special cases and the elderly.
Asyad Group also signed an agreement with OHI Group to provide integrated logistics services to support the group's operations and enhance the efficiency of goods movement and supply chains. Eng. Abdullah Ali Al Busaidi, Director General of Logistics at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, stated that Oman's logistics system undertakes an integrated developmental role by attracting investment and enhancing supply chain efficiency, aiming to make logistics the second-largest contributor to GDP by 2040.
He noted that the annual celebration of Logistics Day reflects Oman's deep logistics heritage and its ongoing evolution. He highlighted that the transport and storage sector's contribution to GDP reached RO 2.23 billion in 2024 and rose to RO 2.35 billion in 2025, a 5.4 percent growth, with a target of RO 3 billion by 2026. Investment in the sector reached RO 3.4 billion in 2025, a 46.6 percent increase from 2024, with a target of RO 3.57 billion for 2026. He added that Oman's share of the re-export market exceeded 20 percent, surpassing the 2026 target of 14 percent, with re-export values exceeding RO 2 billion in 2025.
During the ceremony, the artwork for a Diamond Jubilee stamp was launched to mark the 60th anniversary of the issuance of the first Omani postage stamp. Oman Post released a special collection re-issuing these iconic stamps, artistically redesigned by artist Moayad Al Fannah. The event also witnessed the announcement of the completed merger between O Bunkering and Marafi Services, a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency and service integration in the maritime and logistics sector.
Nine initiatives were unveiled, including the launch of the "GLS" application, a handling platform for Silver Hands Modern used as a digital interface for the Silal Central Fruit and Vegetable Market. The "TAS" truck appointment system project for the Port of Salalah was also launched to reduce congestion and costs. Asyad Group announced the "Green Corridor" initiative between the Port of Salalah and Khazaen Dry Port to ensure the smooth movement of containers to GCC countries.
The winners of the Best Practices in the Logistics Sector Awards 2026 were also announced. The ceremony included a panel discussion titled "Opportunities and Future Prospects of the Logistics Sector," attended by Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, along with several officials and CEOs of logistics companies.
