Royal Decree Establishes Artificial Intelligence Special Zone in Muscat

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik today issued Royal decree No. (50/2026) on establishing an Artificial Intelligence Special Zone in the Governorate of Muscat.

According to Oman News Agency, Article (1) of the decree stipulates that an economic special zone shall be established in the Governorate of Muscat, to be named 'Artificial Intelligence Special Zone' on the land area demarcated in accordance with the layout attached to this decree.

Article (2) specifies that the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones will oversee the appointment of the entity responsible for managing, operating, and developing the Artificial Intelligence Special Zone. This will be done in coordination with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

Article (3) outlines that projects developed in the Artificial Intelligence Special Zone will receive incentives, privileges, and exemptions as detailed in Royal decree No. (38/2025) concerning the Law of Special Economic Zones and Free Zones.

Article (4) declares that the decree will be published in the Official Gazette and will take effect from the day following its publication.
