Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Authority, joins nations around the world in celebrating Earth Day, which falls on 22 April each year, as part of global efforts aimed at enhancing environmental awareness and embedding the concepts of sustainability and climate action.

According to Oman News Agency, the observance of this occasion, in which over 190 countries worldwide participate, underscores the importance of uniting efforts to protect natural resources, address growing environmental challenges, and encourage individuals and institutions to adopt responsible practices toward the environment.

The Sultanate of Oman continues to achieve a prominent presence in environmental action at both regional and international levels. In recent years, the country has recorded a number of accomplishments, most notably progress in the Global Environmental Performance Index (EPI) and ranking among the least polluted countries globally. Additionally, Oman has achieved the targets of the national initiative to plant 10 million trees to enhance vegetation cover and increase natural carbon sinks.

Oman has also expanded its network of nature reserves to protect biodiversity and conserve endangered species. The country is strengthening climate change adaptation programs and supporting clean energy, green hydrogen, and blue carbon projects. Furthermore, Oman has developed advanced digital systems for pollution monitoring and emergency environmental response with greater efficiency.
