Nizwa: The winners of the ‘Green Innovation Hackathon’ competition, organized by the Department of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, were announced today. The competition saw the participation of 37 students from the University of Technology and the University of Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Nizwa.
According to Oman News Agency, the Renova team from the University of Nizwa clinched first place for developing smart asphalt from recycled glass. The Furat (Euphrates) team, also from the University of Nizwa, secured second place with their design of a water filtration project. The MARBX team took third place with their production of sound-and-heat insulation panels made from marble waste.
Hilal bin Badr Al Rashidi, Director of the Department of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in A’Dakhiliyah Governorate, remarked that the hackathon serves as a platform for innovation and teamwork, uniting young people from various disciplines to devise solutions to environmental challenges. Al Rashidi highlighted that 10 out of the 30 student teams that entered the competition advanced to the final stage. He emphasized that the projects presented demonstrate the intellect, creativity, and ability of Omani youth to transform challenges into development opportunities.
