Al-qlayaa: Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, has emphasized the critical importance of deploying the Lebanese Army throughout southern Lebanon, stating it is not merely a demand but a sovereign right and an essential national duty. His statements underline the notion that the survival of Lebanon is intrinsically linked to the stability of its southern region.
According to National News Agency – Lebanon, Cardinal Al-Rahi delivered his remarks during a Sunday Mass at St. George’s Church in Qlayaa, marking the conclusion of his pastoral tour through several southern towns, including Jarmaq, Aishiyeh, Ibl al-Saqi, Kawkaba, and Jdeidet Marjayoun. In his sermon, he praised the resilience of the local population, acknowledging their perseverance against adversities and the importance of their land as a symbol of coexistence and national pride.
The Patriarch highlighted the interconnectedness of the South with the rest of Lebanon, stressing that the challenges faced by the southern communities are indicative of the broader national crisis. He urged for the transformation of the sacrifices made by the southern populace into tangible national gains in political, economic, and developmental spheres. Justice for the South, he argued, is a prerequisite for a unified and thriving Lebanon.
Al-Rahi’s message also called for the preservation of southern lands and the prevention of migration, emphasizing that the identity and survival of Lebanon depend on its people remaining in their land. He concluded with a prayer for lasting peace, justice, and unity for Lebanon, emanating from the southern region, underscoring the shared destiny and hope of the Lebanese people.
