Mikati continues diplomatic meetings in New York in effort to stop aggression on Lebanon


Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, continued his diplomatic meetings in New York, as part of efforts to stop the Israeli aggression on Lebanon.

In this context, Premier Mikati met with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, who briefed him on the contacts carried out by Cyprus to support Lebanon and achieve ceasefire, inlcuding his contact with the enemy’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mikati also met with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Mikati thanked Qatar for standing by Lebanon in these circumstances, especially its support for the army.

The Qatari Prime Minister briefed Premier Mikati on the ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire in Gaza, and Qatar’s efforts through the Arab and international five-member committee to elect a new president for Lebanon.

The Prime Minister then met with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and hailed the positions announced by Spain during the Madrid Conference in s
upport of Palestine.

Mikati also hailed the role undertaken by Spain through the UNIFIL forces operating in south Lebanon.

The Premier also held a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, with whom he discussed the current situation in Lebanon and the region, and Britain’s efforts to stop the fighting.
